You know what's crazy Rock is pretty much dead now. They killed it with punk rock, you don't even hear that shyt really anymore. Plus you realize the bands you listed came well before 360's, Green Day but out since the late 80's and RHCP even before them

I was gonna say. both green day and RHCP have sold a shytLOAD of records. not as much as say U2 or the stones, but both of those groups have sold over 75M records, so they kinda have enough juice to dictate the terms when it comes to touring.

Depends on the band, I've have a few rock bands as clients, the older groups that have been around for 15 plus years hustle, they basically play a bunch of colleges at around 50k for a 5 song set. The money adds up quickly but the gap between them and rappers of similar status is not as big as people make it.

Maybe on commercial radio but rock is still by far the best selling genre specially if we count Classic Rock, modern rock, hard rock and alternative rock as the same genre.
Bigger than everything else combined.

The thing with rock is that these indie bands are not signing contracts, there's bands for everyone..
So many rock classics droppings every year. We have the oldies for the old people, the psychedelic for those who want that, the arcade fires, arctic monkey, vampire weekend and shyt for the general 'interested' rock fan, the Grizzly Bears, Tame Impala, Foxygen and shyt for the hipsters, 30 seconds to marsh and whatnot for the 12 year old girls who don't know music, the list is endless.

Great rock music on the radio in the US (excl RHCP & Coldplay if they count) has not existed for decades, Nirvana had their lil fame but yeah..
Of course great bands have gone platinum like Radiohead but they were more like Arcade Fire before Arcade Fire.

Better to reign in Hell than serve in Heaven
And you dont hear them getting raped by the industry i assume its because they write most their own music. Most dont gotta pay song writers, ghost writers and producers.

Plus a lot of bands arent out there buying expensive ass cars and jewelry flexing and have an image to up keep and go broke over trying to keep like hip hop artists. :yeshrug:

Rock music's image is less flashy.
and they tour more..

all in all, it's a bigger worldwide genre of music.

these rock bands can make a good living, doing local (3-5 state wide) bars and clubs.. just doing cover songs of shyt they didn't even write

so once you start getting into original content, you can tour from here to japan forever (they don't hate on old rockers). most these dude pack up a van or two and do a countrywide tour before you ever even heard of them

and yes... no ghostwriter nor producer to pay helps A LOT

I also think that they are informed people, it's not uncommon to hear about broke former rock artists. White people(or should I say peole born somewhat successful) in general don't play the blame game. Jimmy Iovine is probably rapping Gaga harder than any rapper had been raped but I can guarantee that she won't be out crying like a bytch. And likewise her fans won't be in all the forums making threads about all the lives Jimmy Iovine has destroyed.

People who went to college, have parents who did the same, perhaps uncles with PHDs and on.
Generally know when they can afford a Ferrari, a lot of rappers usually don't. Some of these dues aren probably millionaires without healthinsurance and shyt.

Also bands usually a few people like 5-6 plus the producer. So they split their money just like rappers. And just like rap labels a lot of the breakups are due to uneven splits.
