this...one of my wife and I financial goals over the next 10 years (kids are under 1 now, so we got time)

A lot of brothers and sister don't realize how cheap it is to have a college fund, you are starting at the perfect time. For essentially a few dollars a month, I worked with a financial advisor to maximize, make wise investments, and build a future so my kids don't have to struggle the way I did.

for real

up here (Canada), gov't provides additional grants for for education accounts. Gov't will provide up to $500 a year for 17 years assuming you can contribute at least $2500 to the RESP (registered education savings plan) per year

my wife and i usually put in any extra funds we have per month right now (she's still on maternity leave) and hope to increase the contributions once she goes back to work; but daycare costs are ridiculous up here (roughly $1000-1300 per month per child) :damn::mjcry:, so not even sure if she's going to go back right away

yeah, does a second income cover daycare? It's like why even bother if it evens out.

yeah, but then its like one of us is essentially working just to cover day car costs; once the kids turn 18 months, costs go down considerably, but mat leave is only for 1 year, so wife might extend her leave for another 6 months, but then her job isnt guaranteed when she gets back (they only hold the position for the year)

we havent decided what we're going to do yet
