Refund was $1000 less than last year (only taking home $530 this year (married filing jointly with kids). Salaries did increase but I adjusted my W-4 early last year to incorporate the tax changes, higher salaries, new kid, etc. So I either was REALLY on point with the W-4 (estimating itemized deductions), or I got screwed by the new tax law as well. My overall tax bill was lower though.

Back of the napkin math says I'll be getting back about $534. That's life when you got no kids or wife so you get none of those extra deductions. You end up paying every damn thing required with no outs.

For the first time in years, I won't be owing something serious after being able to change the tax withholding on my bonuses and itemize deductions. I'm not getting much back either, which is great but I guess it should be easy as a single person with no kids/dependents

Already filed, no kids, getting $7k back

Greedy b*stards took $17k out of my severance pay in July and only giving 7 back :beli:
All I get is the standard deduction and a reduction in income due to 401K contributions. Then I have to pay back whatever dividend income I got from my investments which approaches about $1000 annually right now. Unless you pull off some wild itemized or other deductions getting $7K back is crazy. Why overpay like that?

I usually get back a few hundred federal and I almost always owe the state about $10-$50.
