16. As early as I could get it. I wanted to be driving as soon as I could so I could work, and my parents wanted me driving as soon as I could, so I could work and they wouldn’t have to drive me to work.

I got on with McDonald’s as soon as I got my license.

I was taught how to drive by the age of 16, however, due to high insurance premiums, my pops told me to put the license on hold because my parents couldn't afford it. I got it later around 20 or 21.

24 when i finally got my license
I'm curious to some of the people that were older when they got their license. Did you have an ID before that? Because as soon i turned 21 i was buying alcohol and getting an ID card seems like just as much a hassle as a Driver's license.

Getting a non-driver ID is easy because you dont have to prove you can drive.

I had my permit at 16. However, many states especially up north have a graduated license progrom for people under a certain age (usually 18-24) or first time drivers.. Meaning there are steps that require people to hold a permit for a set amount of time or pay for classes before applying for a full license.

If you start the process in one state but dont complete, most of the time the progress is not transferable if you move and you have to start over.

For me personally, it was a combination of living in NYC and not needing a license, moving state to state or just not being able to afford the classes, fees or driving school.
