How old were you when you started to question religion?

I ask this cause my six year old nephew asked some profound questions the other day. He goes

"If God is Jesus and the Holy Spirit, does that mean Jesus was praying to himself on the cross?"
:pachaha:
And
"Why does God make people die? Numbers don't end so why do people?"

:ohh:

So I started thinking, when did I start to question religion? As far as I can remember, I was maybe 8 or 9 and I asked my pops why do we have to pray if God knows everything? Ofcourse he didn't have an answer. :laff:

When do you recall having a doubt or questioning what you were being taught about God?

I remember it clearly. I was 8 years old and sitting in church (catholic :gag:), and I turned to my mother and asked her ''Mommy, how do you know if any of this is real?'' I asked this question with pure innocence. In no way was I being facetious or sarcastic. She turns to me and says, ''You just have to believe.''

Her response only made me question more. . .

Usually it comes in two stages.
1. Being a kid asking an innocent question and getting rebuffed one way or another.
2. Being older and having a conflict of between your will and God's will.

Mostly under the 2nd point all evidence up to that point will be swept under the rug and off they go. However, it seems the point of conflict shows up when trying to get some.

Hard to remember, to be honest.

I never did like going to church and always found it to be a chore, but I'm not sure at exactly what point I stopped believing in that kind of thing, or if I ever really wholeheartedly believed it in the first place. Stopped going the instant I left for college tho. :manny:

Pretty much the same here. I remember it being early, around age 7-8.

I started questioning the purpose of attending church at maybe 6-7, but I still believed everything my parents told me. I didn't fully disbelieve in Christianity until I was like 12-13.

at an early age, like around 10. my pops is a muslim (mostly keeps it to himself), and my mom was a rather strict christian. she would drag me to church, and i hated it from day one. used to give me crazy anxiety as a kid, none of the shyt they talked about made sense or interested me. and being forced to dress & act proper in that environment felt unnatural.

i'm no longer an atheist, but i was outspoken about it when i was young. used to enjoy getting into debates about it. now its more like who cares

as a kid most likely, I don't remember anymore
but formally, my first year of college. I started to seriously question the Slavery/Christianity conundrum and soon after that I just said fukk it, no entity who would allow that, is a "god"; EVERYONE must have it completely wrong. and then the journey begun.

Since I started going to church and could formulate sentences and thoughts. And I do not have a problem with religion in general, I have a problem with Jacobite-ism\Judah-ism, Christianity Catholicism and Mohammedian Islam because of their imperialist nature and falsely sanctioning their ungodly behavior in the name of God.

Im fine with cultural-religious institutions that maintain rituals and cultural traditions associated with a people, but I'm not fine with them forcing their beliefs on others, or encouraging the enslavement, eradication, or usurpation of land of those whose beliefs differ.
