How overrated is the "Spurs are fundamentally sound" mantra?

Parker & Ginobili have very high b-ball IQs.

Throughout Manu's career he's made fans say, "no....yes!" because of the style he plays.

Parker was reckless when he first got in the league, but came into his own years ago...dating back to 07 when they won the title. It's Parker's team & it has been for a couple years now.

It's both Duncan & Pop that have helped them become who they are.

Ok...but what Gino and TP do is not fundamentally sound. You can't teach another player to do what it is that they do. They're gifted.

Watching the Spurs vs a team like Hawks or Knicks is like watching two different sports.

parker scores waaaaay more points off the pick and roll than he does off isos

this is the definition of fundamentally sound. hes running the pick and roll to perfection. look how he moves without the ball on offense

he's also talented and really athletic so it looks a lot better when he's doing it

No...they are utilized in a way that suits their ability...I've made a thread on this before. Tell coaches to look at the players they have on their team and use their abilities. Because there are no sorry players in the nba.

Player Movement>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Ball movement

Ball movement only works when players move and cut, otherwise ball movement gets you nothing but a contested shot.

Ball movement and player movement is great, but I'm tired of every one making it seem as going Iso is the worst thing in the world. I understand 95% iso every game is bad. But Iso is just as neccessary as ball movement.

otherwise you become the Indiana Pacers

but I think the point of this thread is not about team and spacing, its about those two players doing things that are not exactly "fundamental"

its not a critique of those players, its a critique of the media's coverage of them.

Iso is utilized best with bad matchups that ball movement and player movement provide. Thing is, teams like hawks run iso throughout and always get contested shots.

They move the ball around and their spacing is perfect right now. Parker penetrates and either takes the ten foot floater or kicks back out to a wing for a three pointer. Their bench is so deep they'll just milk whoever is hot at the moment. Now if they're not making jumpers they're fukked. That's how OKC got back into the game late in the 4th quarter.
