How prevalent do you think "blackballing" is in Hip hop?

I dunno, when it comes to beef most don't want to pick a side. Like say you get blackballed by Jay and heads at Def Jam but Dre and Jimmy Iovine are putting the machine behind you. What happens?

Very...

Most of the people getting paid in the rap industry are talentless people eating off the talent of whatever artist is generating money at the time......

Some artists generate more then others.........

most of these talentless people eating make moves not in whats in the best interest of the industry but whats in the best interest of their livelihoods........

So instead of taking the chance of offending Jayz by playing a Peedi Crack record they personally think is fire or instead of signing an artist they like but know Jay z has an issue with.they take the easy, fakkit route and play a safe song they may not feel as much as the hot peedi crack track or sign a artist they may not feel as nice as the artist Jay z has an issue but is a safe pick.

That industry is really no different then the industry u work in if u have a 9-5.....

If u offend people in positions that are directly responsible for promoting u/paying u more money how hard is it (in most jobs) for you to excel in the place you work.........and if u offend them enough u'll probably see how hard it is not to get fired from that job

Give Examples:smugbiden:

Chris Brown, it's just that nikka is just too popular and makes too much money. But yea when Rihanna did the cake remix with him, Jay was pissed off and blocked it from itunes and I think there was supposed to video as well that he stopped.

It happens I'm sure...but it's definitely overblown and gets used far too often as an excuse for random acts falling off

Well we know it has happened before or at least been attempted but a lot of times these artists just have lost their spark and the inability to make a hit makes them irrelevant. Hip-Hop and sports are kind of the same. They use you up until they cant get anymore out of you then they are on to the next one.

Hov tried to black ball budden, DMX spoke on Hov's bullshyt as well when he was def jam prez.

X claimed Hov became def jam pres to slow his competition....hard to argue

DMX had fallen way off in status but still wanted 98 budgets & promo dollars, Jay probably felt like it would've been money wasted on a :flabbynsick: artist in a declining sales era & I agree, he made the right decision for the label. DMX really thought(and you if you believe him) he was a threat to retired Jay-z :comeon: That was a prime example of what @Awesome Wells said about rappers deluding themselves into thinking they are blackballed

Exactly... DMX in 2006 was :flabbynsick: AND a liability on top of that.

So many people say Jay did this nikka and that nikka wrong when he was pres at Def Jam, but every nikka they stickin' up for were rappers whose best days were already behind them. DMX was washed, LL made a terrible album, Method Man hadn't had a hit in like 7 years... nobody mentions how Ghostface got to drop mad albums, or how Redman got to finally drop another album after years on the shelf.

And yeah blackballing exists. It's not that lame shyt where nikkas flop and blame it on a conspiracy. It's that shyt where nobody'll fukk with 'em for anything at all in risk of burning a bridge. A blackballed artist won't even get a chance to flop.

I think it exist, but not nearly as much as it use to be cause now there are so many outlets to get your shyt out there.

I'm trying to think of a really dope rapper who has been blackballed cause I feel like you are really dope you will be able to get your shyt out there.

I dealt with it for years because of my affiliations. It just means that the person that you have a problem with, and everyone that fukks with them, won’t fukk with you. The world is big though, so there will always be more people that rock with you, then don’t (at least if you’re a stand up person).

The problem with the music industry, is that a majority of the people in power are passive-aggressive, so you’ll be hanging around the same people that are blackballing you and you won’t even know.

I had a big check reserved for me at a major pub company a few years back and didnt find out until last year, because the exec reached out to someone on my “team” who in turn told them I wasn’t interested in having a meeting, much less doing the deal. I was still in the hood when that check was available, I may have been able to set some shyt up for a few of my homeboys to get legit checks. There all dead or in the feds now. smh.

The exec told me when we had a meeting last year. The person on my team (past tense now) never even told me about the offer. We’re talking about high 6 figures. I’ll never understand why.

its hard to blackball nowadays because new people enter the industry in a constant cycle and there's so many dudes out there chasing a buck.

You can tell the whole industry not to fukk with the artist, but he can always find new people to rock with him.
