I’ve got an interview coming up for a new role, I was asked what my salary expectation is before the interview but I dodged the question by saying I’ll accept ‘good compensation’ if the interview goes well. If I’m offered the role, how should I approach this? Have any of you been through this? I’ve never negotiated before and I read that women are less likely to negotiate their salary, so I want to give it a go. Advice please?

No idea, perhaps you could utilise some NLP techniques to get you into the right frame of mind before hand. Plenty of youtube vids on the subject.:manny:

Dunno what the role is but here is how I handle mine(Cyber Security):

-Knowing what the market rate for the role is
-Knowing the certs I have (thier value) AND the ones I am projected to get within the role
-Understanding the role...often companiea will give you a standard job title but the role invovles more responsibilities than you would typically have in said role
-How often will my salary be reviewed
-Bonus scheme

If you really pressed to give a ball park figure go higher.. they will come down usually

Just don't kid yourself, if they can see your potential they are less likely to laugh you out the room.

I also always lie about my last salary recieved but this is expert level you might not be ready for that :whoa:

With that in mind once you get to the interview show em they gettin a bargain :win:

It might be scary but DONT shy away from this... if you crumble now you'll be forever be taking what youre given instead of what you deserve.

First find some comps on a site like Glassdoor. Then think of reasons (education, experience, accomplishments, expanded job description and responsibilities) why your compensation should exceed the comps. Finally, have a high, medium and acceptable numbers in your head. Start at high, justify it based on the reasons your compensation should exceed the comps. Don't go lower than your acceptable number. Also, consider forms of compensation (stock options, benefits, RSP matching, childcare subsidy, professional development stipend) beyond salary. Push to increase these after your salary is agreed upon.

-Find out natln avg... go for the the higher end of that
-Shoot higher!! And be prepared to back up req. with qualifications/skills
-Let 'em know you know ur worth, but willling to negotiate for extra incentives
-Hope they buy the act, and at minimum you'll break even, w/o having to accept less....which btw, don't!!

research the average salary for the position you're interested in
stay confident during the interview
dont be afraid to throw up your salary numbers (i straight up gave them a number 500 euros above the average salary and got 350)
mind you i already jumped up an extra 500 by applying for the new position.. you do the math:win:
keep calm when the heat is on.. you'll know exactly when thats about to happen

GOOD LUCK!!!!
