We celebrate Christopher Columbus because he brought the shining light of western civilization to the New World. Without Columbus, the Americas would have never known knowledge, human rights, progress, technology, science, natural law, etc.

Not to mention he was one hell of an explorer. The idea of sailing thousands of miles into uncharted waters without celestial navigation, longitude, etc is an act of increible bravery and skill.

Columbus changed the course of human history and deserves to be recognized.

Is this some new profound insight to you or something? I thought about how it's fukked up that we celebrated this mass murderer when I was like 8 or 9. Christopher Columbus committed genocide. Genocide and slavery is something this nation was founded upon. Everyone knows this, especially in HL. I'm not sure why you're belaboring the point so much.

Nobody has problems pointing out the flaws of blacks, Spanish, middle-eastern, and anybody else. However, as soon as you mention a white person being racist......

The one sided story of Columbus is only taught in like 3rd grade. Once they reach high school a more realistic history is presented. The focus of the lesson is actually the two side of Columbus and should we celebrate him or not.

If you think that deep all the time, your head will spin. If we take every holiday literally, then that's like say every kid who wears a costume on Halloween is a devil worshiper and the hell with turkey and football on Thanksgiving, because it's all about the slaughter of Indians. In reality, people just need a reason to have a good time, regardless of the history of the situation. Same for Christmas and Cinco De Mayo, they are shells of what they were a thousand years ago.

I made through H.S both private and public and this topic was never brought up, matter fact the older you get the less about him they teach cause they dont want nobody asking questions.
