There is no figure in hip hop as controversial as Suge Knight. Although there were a lot of business decisions behind the scenes, Suge Knight was the face of the company known as Death Row Records. The label goes down in history as one of the most-iconic labels in the history of hip hop.

In the late 1990s, Suge Knight was dealt a series of devastating blows when his multi-platinum selling roster all left the label. Death Row Records went through a massive overhaul and other rising acts were signed to no mainstream success. Suge Knight eventually was ousted from the label.

But, a relic from his time with Death Row Records resurfaced this morning. During his planned revival period of Death Row Records, Suge Knight did an interview and Jay-Z was brought up as a topic. In the interview, Suge Knight claimed he was taped up, robbed, and gagged, but he admitted he and Jay have never met.

Read an excerpt from the interview below:

Suge: I never met him. The only thing i know about Jay-z is that he came
to L.A. A few times, and Dre and Snoop told him that, “When you on the
west coast, you wrote a song for me, don’t worry ’bout nothin’.” Next thing
i know he’s taped up, robbed, and gagged.

Carson: Who, Jay?

Suge: Yeah, jay.

Carson: Out in L.A.?

Suge: Out in L.A. But you know –

Carson: Who was responsible for that?

Suge: Who knows? But you know, the thing about it, I think Jay-z’s a great
guy because he’s created what he do. I do like jay-Z. Honestly, I never
met ‘em.

Jay basically spoke on what went down in the 2nd verse

weirdly enough, Hovi Baby Remix was on Dysfunktional Family Soundtrack (one of the few releases during the "new" Death Row era)

Ive listened to the song many times, no where does he confirm this.

And this interview with Suge said it happened in after he wrote for Dre in 1999. Jay-z recorded the song you are talking about in 1998.

He has to be trolling. I have heard this song many times and this shyt ain't bout no damn robbery. Memphis Bleek raps second anyway. Either he's confused or trolling
