I always will laugh when i think about Prodigy thinking the first time he met Alchemist he thought he was a undercover fed

This dude has been sampling straight loops for nearly 9 years now, not to take away from the dudes artistry and skill, he brings a loop to life and every now and then he chops the fukk out of a track but recently all of his projects have been a collage of samples.

How can he be doing this for so long without getting hit with a lawsuit? I saw his response to this type of question in an interview before and he said "let the lawyers deal with all of that, just do what you do" ... Jew connections? He aint making as much money as people think? He's just that much under the radar?

I make beats as a hobby and I've just stumbled upon so many of his samples inadvertently its unreal, literally anyone skimming through YouTube for samples will wind up on the same playslist as Alchemists.

I think you're criticizing someone way out of your league. If he said his lawyers handle it, then that's exactly it.

Focus on making a hit record yourself. All this "new" connections blame is not going to help you on your goals.

One other very important detail is that a lot of sample holders are getting to an age where they're happy to let their music be sampled because it brings a new audience to their music and can help spark new interest in their catalogue from a new and younger audience. 9th Wonder for example has gotten calls from the kids of some famous Motown singers that have said, "Since you sampled my dad's song for this track, his streaming numbers for that song and that album are up. We really appreciate it, and if you sample us again could you just list my dad as a co-producer?"

That's what happened with this joint.

Also, if you sample you start to learn what is and isn't cool. For example Bob James is usually cool with being sampled and you can loop it, chop it, whatever, as long as the tempo of the record isn't fukked with. He doesn't like the tempo being sped up or slowed down. You'll notice most Nautilus samples that were actually cleared by him don't have the tempo drastically altered.

Other artists don't want cursing in the song. I know one of the Isley Bros is cool with it and if you approach him it's all good, but not as much with the others.

Al and Madlib are also legit friends with a lot of the cats they sampled. Madlib is friends with Ayalew Mesfin, who he has sampled quite a bit. Alchemist is friends with one of the Novalis cats that he sampled a lot from in the early 2010s, and also I think the Japanese guy he sampled for Fork in the Pot. So these producers also make sure to try and build some relationships with people that they sample.

Finally, sometimes they sample from pre-made music that was designed for sampling. Oh No and Alc did that for the Grand Theft Auto soundtrack. A bunch of people made music designed for them to sample from.

Bob James is forever GOATed for this. He could've been much colder with his reception and instead, you see this dude on stage with legendary hip hop acts at Blue Note in NYC all the time having a ball

Shouldn't you be doing the same. Sick of seeing your pig skinned ugly ass face all up on threads. Lame ass no rapping ass white Canadian.

Same as how random clothing lines get away with having Scarface or Goodfellas ish on their hoodies. Have to be big enough to actually draw attention, and alc isn't sampling widely recognized hits, and his songs aren't big hits to gather attention either. shyt, Supreme is pretty big and they don't always clear their design/logo rips, and very rarely do they get cease & desist orders.

Alc is a "protected artist" in the sampling community, a lot of his stuff seems like it would be easy to track down and be listed on whosampled, but often I find there's not even a single entry, and if there is, it's not til years later.

Additionally, he's been in the game 30 years damn near, and like other's mentioned he undoubtedly has strong industry (i.e. Jewish) connections. Whether you believe it or not, that ish def helps.

This is happening more frequently now. Producers are reaching out to other producers and musicians to replay samples as a way to get around clearance issues.
