Wrestling fans who watched WCW or watched both wanted the company to keep going. All the way to the end, there were getting consistent 2's in the ratings and the last Nitro got over 3.
It is kind of weird..he got cheered night before at the end. But if U watched Raw..he took all the credit and faced Rock before the final segment with Flair and Angle...and the Way they were building the Rock match, his promo, and how they were holding Austin's title hostage...the double turn was automatic..fans had enough. They wanted to cheer Austin again.
