The rent is not so bad up in Humboldt (I pay $595 for a year lease in an Arcata apartment, and the water and electricity is free), and I stay with my parents in Oakland whenever school is out. I can't speak for cities outside the area, but even Oakland is not as bad as the media makes it out to be when it comes to violence and crime; a person just has to be smart and stay out of the rough areas late in the day if possible, and try not to go out alone. It's just like any other big city. One of my few complaints about living out here, though, is the talk of water rationing because of the dry weather. It also sucks having to bring re-usable bags or pay 10 cents per bag whenever I go shopping.

So is California prices like the crazy prices that we pay here? I can see how cali is expensive to other places but from someone from NYC it might actually be cheaper lol. I was looking up apartment prices from both places and nyc apartment looks like a shythole and the cali place had all modern shyt for the same price.
