that's an american tradition. brazilian and soccer tradition in general says players are numbered according to position, even though a lotta clubs and teams dont follow that anymore

also pele is a bytch who hasn't been worth shyt since he stopped playing the game. fukk him, he's a shill for whatever government official or corporate suit hands him the most cash. he doesnt deserve half of what he has
imma be real about this, while Pele is a legit scumbag and deserves no praise I do respect him for getting paid. I say that because the Brazilian government forced him to stay at Santos and not get top dollar for years. He only started seeing real money when he went to the Cosmos.

He is a corporate shill who supports the government, but I get it.

yeah but the cosmos thing was in the 70s, and he's been a puppet since then. brazil's government was a military dictatorship then, he coulda left the whole country and played in europe somewhere. but then again he wouldn't have been able to play with garrincha on the NT sooo good choice pele

also, ronaldinho won a copa libertadores last summer, but he's been washed up huh? euro centric coli posters :camby:

+ he was South American footballer of the year. He played some amazing football and I was genuinely saddened that they didn't take him even if I understand why.

The #10 is reserved for the creative midfielder/ striker hybrid that is usually the most important person to the team's offense. It's like 7 for NFL QBs.

Neymar is the best on Brazil or at least Top 3, so he deserves to wear it. He was anointed as the next big thing for Brazil soccer.

Retiring jersey #s is a foreign concept outside of USA sports

I thought the best player is supposed to wear 10?

not always. its moreso reserved for the creative midfield player. if the best player is the striker, he usually wears 9. like OG Ronaldo for Brazil was #9 and Rivaldo their creative midfielder was #10.

though now you have cats like Neymar and Messi who are wingers taking 10 that throws this for a loop.

Listen breh, and listen good. Europe is where the GOATs goto shine. All Pele needed to do was ball for small a club like Queens Park Rangers or Clymidia Krakow and he woulda ate good. Instead he was stuck at Santos making just enough.

Also Escape to Victory was loosely based on Pele's life at Santos so I get it. Use your mind optics, breh.
