*This is a rough draft work in progress there is so so so much history that I have to continue to add daily* I wanted to know more about the heritage so I did some research, I'm definitely down with revising and adding anything that should be here.
The 90s
So basically a long time ago there was a site called BGOL (Black Girl Online) where people would have fun, talk hip hop and shytpost and look at fine ass black women. That site started in the 90s and still goes on till this day. Some people speculate that BGOL was actually the ancestor to a lot of hip hop oriented sites today (All Hip Hop, Kanyetothe, SOHH, etc.)
At some point in the early 2000s a site called SOHH (Support Online Hip Hop) was created and a large segment of the Black Girl Online crew migrated there.
The Early 2000s
SOHH was lit and people had a jolly ass time in a hip hop cultural sphere that spawned a whole lot of cool shyt (Nas Lost, U mad, etc.). Yet SOHH also had some whack ass servers (which is where the hamster emoji came from
). Also the front page of SOHH had some fukkery by the admins on there.
Most of the forums on here were forums on SOHH, hell even theColi itself was just a forum on SOHH and was called "The Coliseum".
The Mid to late 2000's
Many awesome escapades occurred on SOHH and they even crusaded and battled a few racist sites (The Daily Stormer and shyt). Yet that same courage and heart would also create an environment that would lead to its own undoing.
During the late 2000's the group anonymous was spreading their influence on the internet through hacking and whatnot. A lot of different forums online were actually somewhat intimidated by them... except a dude on the JBO (Just Buggin Out) forum at SOHH who decided to call out ***** and basically said "F them" (actually said their name though).
There was a traitor on SOHH who basically ran to ***** and told what the guy said and ***** defaced the SOHH website with a bunch of racist stuff (a legacy that is echoed to thecoli's current climate of saying "cac" all the damn time).
Other hip hop sites were also defaced by the group and even warranted FBI involvement to find the perpetrators. This led to those sites' forums and SOHH being down for a small time. During the downtime many of SOHH's forum members made exoduses to other places and became refugees for a time.
After the defacement, SOHH was never the same and the shytty servers only exasperated the feeling that things could be better somewhere else.
Early 2010's
During an NBA Finals game in the early 2010's, the servers shut down on SOHH and a member from theColiseum sub-forum on SOHH decided to make a new site so that the conversations could continue uninterrupted....theColi (Yay !).
People loved theColi's servers so much better and more and more people started leaving SOHH.
Soon SOHH decided it was gonna stop having forums and also sold itself to another company.
The new company tried making a new forum and social media site for the SOHH members but it was whack as hell and nobody liked it, so there was only one correct choice....theColi !!!!!
A few people doubted that theColi would be a good replacement, but it ended up turning out better than SOHH's forums ever were.
Now
Now the game belongs to us.
Sidenote: I wasn't there for none of this shyt (I'm just a nephew myself) but I read on different archived threads on here, the wayback machine, other hip hop forums, to grasp an idea of what happened so it may be completely biased. I kinda want to do a documentary on the history of hip hop forums and the impact it has had on the culture. Any revisions or suggestions are completely welcome.
