I got scammed a couple months ago. Was walking from my University to the train station to take it back to my ride. As I get to the train station, a black man in chackis and a green jacket comes up to me and asks for a cigarette, to which I answered that I hadn't brought them with me (I usually keep them in a drawer at my house to limit myself to 1-2 cigs a day). Then he said he worked for the salvation army and handed me what he claimed was a $50 card and says Happy Thanksgiving (it was literally the day before Thanksgiving). Obviously I didn't expect that shyt. Then he asked me if I had a few bucks to get something to eat which sounded suspicious AF. Still, since I wasn't thinking it through all the way at the time and kinda wanted to get rid of the dude, I took $4 out of my wallet and gave it to him. He legit looked depressed when he saw how much it was and said "thank you" and kept tryna make small talk with me while I walked inside to wait at the station, at which point I sat away from him
When I get inside, I notice that on the front he had written "GAS ONLY" on the card. That was my first major clue something was up (other than everything that had happened to that point already lol), because those cards are supposed to be good for everything in the store as well (food, drinks, lottery tickets, etc). Then on the back, it said "activated 11/23/17" . It was 11/22/17 and it made no sense to me why a card wouldn't have already been activated, because as soon as you pay for it the card is activated. So I went online to check the balance, it said it couldn't access and gave me a number to call. I called the number and put the 16 digits in on the card. Phone responds with "this card has not yet been activated" and of course at this point I was pissed (though more at myself for being stupid enough to let this dude hang around and keep talking to me)
I walked over to him and threw the gas card on his lap and said "this shyt doesn't work it's not activated" and walked away without even looking at him. Then he comes up to me and starts talking to me in this soft ass tone of voice. "Look on the card, it says that it's not activated until Thanksgiving" and i asked him why it wouldn't be activated already . Then he gave me my money back and was like "I wasn't tryna scam you". I felt bad for a split second until I realized that he was still in fact trying to scam me at that very moment and just shut my mouth until he left

Once again you've been blessed...
- Come up with a good script as to why you need to change.
- Dress nice. You can use the fact that you are dressed appropriately as a prop you can use the excuse that you going to a wedding, funeral or job interview.
- If possible Always approach to female if your male and a male if you are female.
