You need to do it at the router level if you game through a router though. I used the open DNS addresses in my router of 208.67.222.22 and 208.67.220.220
If you change to a static IP, you can also manually set the DNS as well. 8.8.8.8 is a Google server btw

I have a static ip set for my ps4, but I change it at the router level since all my network traffic goes through the router. If I set my ps4 with a DNS IP different from my router, wouldn't the router's dns ip override?

Nope. Once you set a static IP, the host (in this case, the PS4) will not query the router through DHCP. DHCP resolves the IP address, DNS, gateway, etc automatically.

Basically, the PS4 says "nah nikka i got this..." :lolbron:

So a the static level that overrides the router's info? :ohhh:

I set my ps4's static ip from the router's end though. Should I change it to be from the PS4's end? The only manual setting on my ps4 is the DNS address that I made 4.2.2.5 and 4.2.2.4 for the secondary dns address.

Doesnt matter, it can be set from either end.

but a specific dns server entered for any device on your router's network will take precedence over the router designated dns, correct?
Yep. The device will query the static DNS entered as it has not even asked for one from the gateway (router)
