How was Shenmue 2 perceived when it was released?

I was 16 & hyped up big when it was coming to the Dreamcast. I loved the hell out that game. Played it & beat it. Took it back to EB got my money back ( miss those easy return days)

I don't remember Shenmue 2 reaction when it was released on Xbox. Hell I never even played it. Did it sell?


I'm asking this because I'm surprised as hell at the love Shenmue 3 is getting.

I beat Shenmue 1 more than a decade ago, never beat Shenmue 2. I dropped it for some reason.

I picked this up again today, and I remembered why immediately. Boring as fukk. I really hope Shenmue 3 isn't gonna be like this.

Maybe I'll pick it up again but it's a struggle to get the story moving. Ryo is a fukking robot, he talks like one too.
