I would tell that young Afghan person to either stay and fight or flee to a safer country - your choice.

It's a lose-lose situation. The U.S. leaving Afghanistan is the least worse option out of a bunch of bad options. The U.S. shouldn't have invaded Afghanistan in 2001 in the first place - there was no clear plan or strategy.

We should keep a small force in Afghanistan. I do not want any form of a reconstituted Taliban backed by Russia and Chinese weapons and intelligence.

That's happening today, where do you think their weapons are coming from.

There is not enough collective desire within Afghanistan to remove the Taliban completely. The Taliban will regain power, the question will be how do you handle them. Through direct diplomacy or choke them off from their allies. Neither of which requires a significant US force in country.

People don't like it, but its past time.
