Me, I'm an accountant, and I can and have been do my own taxes...usually with turbotax or taxact (both owned my multi-million dollar companies Intuit & Blucora).

Intuit and Blucore are two multi-million dollar companies without a single black person as a executive.

Instead of giving my $20-$30 to these corporations, I'll give $30-$40 to a local black CPA trying to start their own accounting firm.

Also some men's clothing companies:

Plus I have a few goals for next year:
  • Have every article of clothing I own come from a black manufacturer/designer (down to my draws and my shoes).
  • Make sure at least 50% of my money goes to a black owned business
  • Grow my business and make sure my staff stays 100% black
  • Put together a list of every black owned business in Atlanta

Isn't it free to e-file your federal taxes online :patrice:

I know depending on the state you gotta pay, but that money goes to the state.

Yeah, but not your state.

I file my state taxes through the state site. Back when I did used do pay to get my taxes done (like 6 or 7 years ago) there was this black owned tax prep company my home girl put me onto.

Here in North Carolina you have to pay a fee.

Oh, I also want to donate more to black organizations. I already donate to the Harlem Children's Zone, but I need to really make it a monthly contribution. shyt I pay for Netflix every month, might as well give $10/mo to that school too.

And I'm gonna start donating to the Harvest Institute as well.

And I think I'm gonna donate to the NOI too . Historically they've been as pro black as you can get, with 0 apologies...............I'm not religious though :patrice:

Oh, and everything I usually buy from Amazon, I'll see if it's on black shopping channel first and buy from them.

I am gonna go out of my way to patronize black business as much as humanly possible here in NY. So having access to a black business directory is a must. And for the companies not here in the city, I will buy direct as long as they are black owned. I already started ordering my hair products direct from the company rather than get it from Target (the hair company has their shyt in target)

Now there are some things that I want/use that there just arent black companies who produce it so I have to shop with the "other" man. I am making it a point to patronize black business, and not just resturants. We need that support across the board. There's an African market in Harlem that I would get soap and shea butter from and I know the $ is directly going to the people who run the shops there.

What would you like to see in a black business directory? I'm on the ground stages of working on one right now.

First, no CACs, lol

but for real, I'd like a comprehensive list of business that people can put their trust in. None of this record label bootleg "CEO" shyt that cats do yet they don't even register the "business" name with the state/govt.

People need that confidence that they can do business with a fellow breh and its legit. One thing I gotta give to the natural hair community is that they promote that natural life but you also have alot of people (mostly females) doing their own products and selling them. Their needs to be a network that gives these companies a real push and platform to put their stuff out there, like Etsy. That site is caking off people who make all kinds of crafts and shyt and sell it online

I'd also want a directory that has more than 1-2 of a particular service. We need variety but we also need industries that require real mental effort (like accounting, architecture, computer stuff) to get that boost. You got alot of brehs who are graphic designers, computer programmers, engineers and these cats could be working together but none of them know each other because theres no incubator for them to chop it up. Then, sadly, they get jobs with these bigger companies and get put on the back burner.

It would be cool to get a co-sign from someone know (a paid spokesperson) so that people will take notice of it. Look at someone like Tariq. dude is doing him and while some may not agree with his message/methods, he's doing him, promoting black economic freedom and putting out his own product on his own. A co-sign form someone like that would be a good look. I'd rather hear it from him than someone who is being paid by corporations and are limited in what they can say
