The ignorance and lack of shame celebrated nowadays would be frowned upon if Hip Hop never existed.

Hip Hop was originally founded to curb violence and give kids in the hood an alternative to gang banging and selling dope. Hip Hop was the ultimate after school program. 70’s/early 80’s rappers in NYC weren’t allowed to rap about street shyt. That’s what Melle Melle said in the VladTV interview. Gangster themes didn’t dominated Hip Hop until about the mid 90’s and Native Tongues-esque alternative rap was still relevant well into the 2000’s.

And crime was higher in almost all big cities in the 70’s before Rap was a global phenomenon. Tookie and T Rodgers weren’t influenced by Lil Durk. nikkas was doing drive by’s listening to Barry White. And that still happens to this day. :mjtf:And when the violent crime rate was at an all time high in the early 90’s, most rappers were on some high top fade, polka dot wearing, dancing happy ass shyt. :flabbynsick:Gangsta Rap was a completely California inner city phenomenon back then.

Haha, I've said this a million times. Still, you only told so much of the story. You can't speak on the golden era without disregarding the juggernaught that Hip Hop is today? Truth be told it is largely degenerate and self genocidal music. We'd be better off without it, even if that meant sacrificing the good that came out of Hip Hop.
