If you can build a team around Kevin Durrant, then you can build a team around Melo.

Melo needs a team that can play good defense and have consistant 2nd option. You an't rely on JR Smith as 2nd option and expect to go deep in the playoffs.

The stoop with dat dope fanny padding
It won't matter who you put around him until he grows up and changes the way he plays

Ideally you'd want a floor general pg who will stand up to melo when needed (like how billups did) a spot up shooter at sg as well as a pf who can stretch the floor (and hopefully play defense) along with a banger in the paint for a center.

But it won't matter unless melo grows up and stops being so selfish and finds other ways to contribute to a game other than shooting

Jrue Holiday
Shump
Melo
David Lee
Noah (Healthy & motivated Howard or Bynum would be ideal)
I think a team like this could make some serious noise and is actually a believable team..add some shooters coming off the bench and some solid big men to defend the paint and rebound and this could be a formidable squad.

Honestly though to beat the Heat i think it would take CP3/Dwight along with an athletic/defensive PF and shooters, Melo could conceivably play a role on that team, and even be the go to scorer but Cp3 would have to be and obviously would be the floor general, which goes against the theme of building a team around Melo.

So if you surround melo with four all stars, they'll be good?

I dont know, how'd that work out for the lakers?

Shumpert's not an All Star and if these guys played together they wouldnt have all made the All Star game, plus thats what it would take to beat Miami or Okc (both have 2 superstars, Mia currently has 3 all stars, Ibaka will get in soon so Okc will have 3 soon as well), I assumed we were talking about building a legitimate contender not just building any team around Melo cause in that case he already has an average team around him and what would be the purpose of the thread?

Pass first PG
Spot up SG
Melo
All around PF that can make the 15 footer
Defensive finisher

Basically, the only way I can see to build around him would be how the Celtics won their title. A coach that will tell him to make his moves quickly, this dude burns so much of the clock, and it's not like he's Wade/Kobe/Bron where he could end up passing, you know there's a damn good chance he's shooting.

Looking back at it, the worst thing that happened to him was not being drafted second, the Pistons would have been the perfect situation for him.

Beal
Melo
Nene
Okafor
