- You give a close homie $500 as motivation to hit a goal. he will hold it until i hit the goal. In my case, hit a certain weight. Steadily working my way down 15 lbs.

- He agrees to hold it till then.

- Emergency happens and you need the money back for family issue.

- Friend caught by surprise, admits he got laid off and doesnt have it at the moment.

Trying to decide if I should show empathy or not. Clearly wasnt expecting me to hit the goal. But says he'll be good for it in a month.

That's a hard one...... I'm assuming it was a good friend of you let them hold that......... lesson learned....... get it back at that one month goal they set for themselves

op wanted to lose 15 lbs
as motivation, he told his friend "hold my $500 until i lose 15."
friend loses job & spends $500
op has emergency and needs $500 back
friend reveals he spent money
op thinks friend thought he'd never lose the 15 to begin with

I’m amazed at how careless folks are with their money. Folks really out here unable think of different scenarios. You give dude money to hold for you?!what happens if he dies? How u intend on getting it back? Like wtf.

Yeah. Mistake. Lesson learned.

It wasn’t his money to spend tho.

He was way out of line.

This is how I'm leaning

I'm confused as to why you let him hold it in the first place? Are you involved in a bet with another person, and he's the money man? I just don't see how you couldn't have put the cash in a place that was 1. Secure for you. 2. allowed easy access in cases like an emergency.

Here’s the thing dude.

1. Your friend spent money that wasn’t his to spend.

2. He didn’t even tell you about his situation first. If you knew he was tight on money, you might have given it to him or lent it with no problem. Him keeping it all quiet means you can’t really trust him like that now.

3. A person who needs to borrow $500 for 1 month will absolutely not pay you back the next month. His situation is fukked up. And in my experience those people don’t ever get right. You might as well consider that money gone. You’re never seeing that shyt again. Best you can hope for is to put this dude on a payment plan. And even then you might get like $50 back.

That was always your money
Homie should've asked if you could spot him due to his circumstances
No empathy, and demand payment back
Total lack of respect
