Maybe keep the fake serial killer story line, but have it exposed immediately. Keep it realistic, and have it last like 2 eps before someone like Kima snitches.

After that have McNulty expose how fukked up the system is, and what's been going on the last 4 seasons, to the newspaper people? On some exclusive story type shyt. It would be career suicide same as what happened, really.

But due to politics they don't print the story. Marlo obviously gets off because what little evidence they have is from illegal wire taps. McNulty gets disgraced, falls out of the story for a few eps. This would be when all the Omar shyt happens.

The end of the last ep would be the same, except when Marlo goes outside he randomly runs into McNulty, who kills him.

McNulty killing Marlo might be good on a regular TV show, but wouldn't fly on the Wire.

To me the serial killer storyline was good on paper. They were trying to touch on the hypocrisy & racial element of peoples outrage. Like it's ok if a serial killer is only killing nikkas in the the hood, but if a serial killer is killing white homeless men, then that is worthy of our concern and attention.

On paper it tied in the Newspaper angle & also funded the investigation. It just didn't work as well on screen. Even though they explained how it could technically work, it just didn't feel plausible to the viewer like Hamsterdam did.

I wouldn't change season 5 for better or worse, id start season 6 right where 5 left off, but 3 years later....

some things i'd include



Marlo getting back in the game, but not lasting long due to the pending case, leading to his trial and all the dirt with it getting exposed in court, including Mc Nulty and Freemon being indicted, and every person that benefitted from it exposed, including Carcetti, Pearlman, Daniels and Scott Templeton

the young black reporter eats real good off this


Lt. Carver and some of the lesser known cops forming a new major crimes unit with Slim Charles/ Fat face Rick being the targets and making major waves but getting shut down because of the scandal



Namond following in Bunny's footsteps and becoming a cop, in fact have the season start off with him at Jessup having an awkward conversation with Weebay, but for the first time he stands up for himself and tells him he is going to do it, and Weebay accepts this because this is the first time he sees heart from him

mike and dukie meeting in the streets, far from how they used to be neither not remembering what it was like to actually be happy

Bubbles getting exposed and killed for being a snitch by Spiders crew , Kima the lead detective on his case

Id end it with randy and Kenard meeting in a juvenile facility, becoming the new stringer and Avon but more Marlo style

I know what you mean. The whole Ziggy/Weebay thing was such a ripp off of Oz. First Ziggy is Weebay's bytch then he starts developing feelings for him. i must admit that I wept when Weebay held Ziggy in his arms and then snapped his neck so that the White Pride dudes didn't get the chance to rape him... powerful stuff a la Of Mice and Men.

I would have kept everything the same except the last scene would have still been marlo coming out of jail and stabbing that dude on the corner BUT them omar would have shot him in the head, looked at the camera and said " game over" as he walked away into a shadowy Baltimore alley doing his whistle

This is really, really good. I'd have mike and dukie meet in a dark alley mirroring the bubs and omar scene from whatever season.

Ending was good had no issues with it. The problem with season 5 was the homeless serial killer storyline which didn't really fit in the wire...was just too wild and unrealistic. shyt was starting to look like something out of 24. That and the whole newspaper angle was weak. Bu far the weakest out of the side stories from other seasons. I dunno what I would've done to replace them but then again I ain't a writer. Plus Omar's death sucked fukk if it was realistic or not. In a season with a fake serial killer they couldve had him go out guns blazing
