How would you have handled this if you were Dwayne?

That was some plot tension for the show. Obviously in real life I wouldn't escalate the situation but what I am saying is that situation would not happen to begin with.

Oh ok... I misread what you were trying to say...

And for the record that's overacting. I've been around plenty of gangstas and thugs ain't nobody shooting or threatening to shoot their child's educator for simply giving an effort.

you’d be surprised :( and the “offense” came when he questioned his ability as a father...please believe that can escalate a situation very much

Nah I get that. DWayne wayne was popping shyt in an already tense situation. One, he should have called the parent and set something up in advance and two he should have probably had Ron or another dude with him. I would say 3 he should have arranged it at the school but dude's father might not show up

ya you NEVER should go to a student’s home even if the parent okays it...but as you said sometimes you desperately need to get in contact w/ a parent and bcuz you care you think you’re doing the right

*edit*

I shouldn’t say “never” just that you generally shouldn’t unless it’s an urgent situation that requires you to immediately get a hold of a parent/guardian

Ron was a real one, rewatching the series as of the late.

Underrated TV character imo

this takes me back to when i was a teacher and i had gone to this girl's house cause i felt she wasn't reachin her full potential. i remember her telling me that her family was from europe or somewhere and she didn't know i was coming over there. i got to this rundown building and the lights was barely working like some shyt out a horror movie. then i go up to their floor and the elevator door opened and i went over to the correct door and knocked. some dude immediately started cussin me out in a heavy accent that i couldn't place so i walked off and said 'a$$hole' under my breath, and i used a slur reserved for europeans that i'm not proud of, though i'm also not ashamed.

brehs, when i got halfway, i heard a door fly open and, i kid you not, three hairy-ass dudes came gallopin out like some fukkin ponies. they looked like gypsies but they were on all fours like them people on that tv show that got posted here before and they was chargin at me, cussin cause they'd heard me use the slur. i was at the elevator pressing the shyt out the button and looking back and it was slow as fukk comin up. i was shook brehs, but eventually i remembered an old wives tale and threw down some rice on the ground and they had to stop to count it just as the elevator opened up. and this shyt almost made me stop being a teacher altogether after it happened.

Dwayne handled the situation well with the exception of challenging the father's ability to parent.

I've had the pleasure of educating some gangster's children and none of them ever got hostile in any situation especially when they knew I was trying to help their kid.

Dwayne could have chosen his wording a little better a lot of times it's how you say it rather than what you say.

Speak on it

long story kinda short a girl was stealing teachers’ lunches bcuz she was hungry and had no food @ home...couldn’t afford school lunch (we bought her some)...I think her mom had to fill out paperwork or some shyt to get free lunch but we couldn’t get a hold of her

went to her house...this was a rough ass neighborhood for a child to have to grow up in...fiends and prostitutes out in the open esp. @ nite many of them parents to the same kids we were teaching (a couple of friends of mine actually lived in the neighborhood so I was familiar w/ the area before I even worked there...one dude had a cuz’n in my class) just a dire situation for these kids to have to grow up in...one time the school had a lockdown during dismissal cuz someone was shot/killed across the street...anyway I’m going off on a tangent

went to the house...me and a white teacher and the school counselor who was this old ass white lady...and I’m dressed like a square so I’m already sticking out like a sore thumb plus I have these 2 white women w/ me lol...knock on the door...no answer...knock again...no answer...finally we hear footsteps...takes a while for the door to open up...the student’s grandmother invites us in...the reason it took long for her to answer the door is there were mattresses lined up in the hallway for the kids to sleep...sad shyt

she goes to wake up the mom...hear the mom fussing...she comes thru cussing us cuz we woke her up...we tell her the reason why we came...she yells @ us for coming to her house unannounced (no one was answering the phone all the times we called)...we eventually left and nothing was accomplished...a TA would bring lunch from home for the student for the rest of the school year

this is just one story...maybe I laid it on thick by saying a teacher should “NEVER” go to a student’s home...I’m pretty sure in many instances it’s resulted in a lot of good being done...personally it’s just a chance I wouldn’t take again

Nothing he could've really done. He tried to save a young black kid, and is threatened for his troubles. Can't save them all.. :yeshrug:
Reminds me of the potential this young lad had:mjcry:
