he didn't need to be "technical", I think had he committed to being techy in the beginning with his athleticism and family wrestling history he coulda likely been but he quickly found his lane, that microphone. .. sure he had a weird ass looking sharpshooter I guess. .. but to answer your actual question maybe 6.5? I don't know that it woulda been his ticket to the top to trade holds, exchanges and such he wouldn't have stood out when you had the mid to late 90's when little men were tearing the world up with technical wrestling. .. Kurt, Eddie, Benoit, Brock, Jericho, Malenko, Bret, Shawn are rare types as technicals. technical skill is only one piece of a bigger puzzle however.
I believed what he did in and out of the ring, paid my money to see it and many others did too.

Rock was mad charismatic in and out of the ring. Always able to put on an entertaining match even with his worst opponents. His ability to make his opponents look good through his selling is a 10 IMO. Technically I'd give him a 6.5-7.
He averages about a 6.5, but in 2002 I think he peaked around a 7/7.5 maybe as he was trying to add more moves to his arsenal which I think his best "technical" matches happened that year.
His last run though, bout a 4.... I'd give his Survivor Series match a 5.

Agreed. He was a great hand that could have an amazing match with the right opponent. His entertaining style meshed well with a few styles because he was so athletic. Never could accuse him of wrestling circles around everybody but he didn't need to. If give him a 6/10...
