He could put on a good match for sure. His offense looked really goofy and cartoonish though. His timing was great, and selling as a babyface in peril was good too. I'd say he was good.

But lets be real about this, that shyt was by design. He wasn't doing shyt like that when he first started, he added those little things to flesh out his gimmick and be more distinctive.

True, it's just hard to say he was good technically when his offense was some three stooges type shyt. The same could be said of Hogan I guess.

That's the problem with him in ring imo, he wasn't believable at all to me. He had a lot of good qualities but his style was very goofy and non-violent looking.

I hear you, we all have our preferences I kinda feel the almost comic book like goofiness of his offense was needed in that character driven Attitude era.

I believed him when he was in peril because of his mannerisms and expressions, subtle little things that had me really wanting him to make his comebacks. When he was heel that zany overselling helped because when Stone Cold or someone was taking it to him because it was like HELL YEAH TAKE THAT!!

Those rolling DDT's and flying clotheslines didn't look non violent tho, i'd have loved to hit that DDT on someone unsuspectingly

Flying clothesline looked goofy most of the time imo, but yea, his ddt was nice. I agree on Rock's selling for sure though. I watched the Backlash match vs HHH for the first time in years a few weeks ago and it stood out to me how good Rock was at taking that beating and getting the crowd dying to see his comeback.

He sold like a sumbytch.

Sold to the point of overselling, but that fit in with his over-the-top persona.

He helped make the Stone Cold Stunner famous.
