Best bet is to threaten legal action. Bluff and say I've talked to a lawyer and I have evidence that you owe me money and the lawyer said the case is very strong. I rather pay the lawyer than pay you.

Take the loss, keep it moving, and don't give them anything else or even say shyt to them until they correct that bytch move they pulled 
its pretty much true there isn't much you can do about it unless you signed a contract and even then i think the best you can do is small claims court and hope to get a mark on their credit and if someone already has shytty credit they don't give a shyt about that
and if you commit violence for it...well your really going to risk having a criminal record over probably not life changing amount of money?
The other thing you can do is deduct it on your taxes as long as you can prove the debt and that it went unpaid but have the proof just in case IRS wants to confirm the unpaid debt
