How would you view Jay-Z if he did really go out with the Black album...

I was just thinking about this question the other day. Hindsight is 20/20 because it felt like Jay's retirement was a scam and I wasn't really feeling the black album. But years later album GREW on me big time and its one of my fav Jay. Z albums.

Jay makes music that I hate it at first but that I appreciate later on. But not for all of his albums.

I'm not sure if I would have had him ranked so high, but after the subsequent release of several more albums after Black, I now rank him very high and for the first time have included him in my top 10 MC List.

I would still view him as one of the greatest to ever do it. He was already there by time he released the Black Album so I don't see how this would have changed if it was his last album.

I'm more impressed with him now, if he retired in 2003 then he wouldn't have the longevity he has now.

In that time he has shown he can still release a great album (AG), and a good one (MCHG), while being even more relevant than he was in his prime.

:whew:

But what makes you think if Jay died,he'd leap frog other dead rappers biggie and pac:dwillhuh: They was considered better than him when they was alive. And Jay has had inconsistency issues since their death. If Jay died,he still wouldn't be top 3.

i dont even think like that ! he would never be above pac n big no way what , but nr 3 :patrice: seems real cause i cant name any other hyped/mainstream rapper
that would die and be proclaimed GOAT maybe GRODT 50 lol , Pun and L are mad dope but they werent that hyped

who would u place nr 3 ?

That whole retirement thing was just embarrassing to the point where Jay himself don't talk about it anymore, yet that episode is a big part of his career.

I mean at that point did he really intend not release another record?

I'm going with esco joining big and pac with jigger 4. I think jays death would actually help NaS' argument:mjpls:

Esco no doubt , he doesnt need to die to be the GOAT , he's the GOAT anyways
but i was talking about dead rappers/dead hyped rappers

Good question. I'd say different, higher up but he did give us American Gangster post- retirement that I am a fan of.

if Jay died after The Black Album he would be the undisputed GOAT no questions asked...

RD :whew:
Vol 1 :noah:
Vol 2 :manny:
Vol 3
Dynasty
BP
BP2 - if the filler was removed
The Black Album :blessed:

Kingdom Come and BP3 did kind of mess up his catalog a little bit... still arguably the GOAT though right next to Pac/Big
