Hopefully it would be after thrusting a kid out of the window of a burning building. I get that kid out and here crying in the distance.

"I hear a kid back there, I gotta go find them."

"Wait, there is nobody else in there."

I run frantically, coughing, eyes filled with tears, feeling my clock is running, closer to being punched. Smoke everywhere. Check this room. Nothing.
Check the next, crawling on the floor looking for light sources...nothing.

"Help!"

I can't give up. Someone is in trouble. I crawl through the hellish apartment, embers and smoke dancing in the atmosphere, toward the screams.
As I choke and scrape, the screams turn to conversation...calm conversation.

Is there a room where people are unharmed?

My chest feels heavy and my head feels light, clearly oxygen is in short supply while the fumes of burning wallpaper and furniture takes its place.

I crawl.

And I crawl. I hear the voices again...and music...

I see a light source through the billowing smoke. The heat is unbearable...but I can't quit.

The light source is getting bigger and more defined...strangely compact...the noises....

As I gasp for my last few breaths, I have a flash of my life play in slow motion and fast forward at the same time. I expected my life to mean something, and hopefully,
the death to feel just as meaningful.

I breath my final breath clutching what I once thought was someone in need of help.

I'm not sure how but before 50 probably, even when I was a kid I didn't see myself living very long, which is weird but if I live to be old I'll be very surprised
