Never box yourself in without alternative options. Google is going to work that child like a mule.

He can still get into college, and other companies just for being a SWE at Google
His options/alternatives are damn near endless

Google's WLB is team/manager dependent. Compared to Amazon, Tiktok(996) and many others he should be good at Google

If he’s in the software development field then the degree doesn’t really matter as much if his portfolio was top notch.

👂🏾 👂🏾👂🏾 we listening 👀

Asians are notorious for their rote memorization. They got into these tech companies and started mandating that everyone grind leetcode to get in. As other posters mentioned, black folks don't even get an interview but they'll interview any asian immigrant on an H1b that they can and only require that they grind leetcode. Its an entire hustle.

They openly talk about it occasionally:

Here they are lying about diversity hires because they are some of the most anti-black people on the planet. Before the affirmitive action ruling, if you read blind for more than 10 minutes you would have saw dozens of threads about them complaining that they can't get hired because of diversity hires (which we all know is a codeword for black; and a gigantic fukking lie, ain't no black people at these companies). They're saying "black people are more likely to get the interview but dont get hired because they aren't skilled" which is bullshyt.

If you search diversity, you'll find dozens upon dozens of anti-black threads full of asians saying that they cant find a job because of all the "diversity" hires. That magically stopped being a subject for conversation when the AA ruling went through.

If you go to the leetcode subreddit, all the posts are about grinding. They don't even really talk about how to do to the problems, DSA tricks and tips or anything like that. Their mentality is just stfu and grind: Discuss interview prep • r/leetcode.

The whole pipeline is designed by Asians for Asians. Surprisingly, most white people in tech think the whole leetcode thing is fukking stupid (it is) and that it is not a good indicator of how good you are as a software engineer. It just shows that you've grinded leetcode a bunch.

EDIT: teamblind is like 4cac meets old Facebook. It requires a tech company account to sign up and you can see poster's company, but they remain anonymous. It's where they go to talk about the industry without censoring themselves.

He had a 1590 SAT and got rejected from top schools, not San Jose State.
Obviously the rest of his application was trash which is the reason many Asians get the stiff arm. No sports, don't belong to clubs anyone gives a fukk about, no history of volunteering in the community, can't get letters of recommendation outside of teachers. Basically outside of academics they don't exist.

Depends on a few things, and this is where we start wandering into "if" and "might be" territory. He can still get into college, sure, but you run into the old discussion about taking the proverbial year off and whether it makes it harder to pick things back up where you left off. It does. He might be an actual prodigy, which is great...until he gets bored, burned out, or wants to switch to something else, which is where you definitely need the paper behind your name to give you maneuvering room. If he's a gifted polymath then a lot of bases are covered...but that's really, really rare.

I guess we'll see.

EDIT: the nepotism angle @OneManGang mentioned definitely gives him a leg up :pachaha:

They don’t care about your portfolio. It’s interview skills + leetcode + experience. A degree from top engineering school still helps as well

Um no. Been on linkedin lately?
Yes, and that doesn't change what I've said. These companies hire people that have the skills and experience building stuff. It's not common, but it is a fact that the college degree requirement was removed from tech and consulting companies years ago.
