“I know some parts of the E3 presentation got a lot of flak, but I don’t think everything’s set in stone,” said the sales lead, who wished to remain unnamed. [Publisher's note: our writer shared with me a scan of the rep's business card; the source is legitimate.] “I’ve heard the backwards compatibility thing is still being ironed out and might happen. So don’t count on the answer being a firm ‘no’ just yet. They’ve really been listening to feedback, and that includes backwards compatibility for Xbox One.

If true this would be a huge blow! But I doubt it.

Is it too far-fetched to consider Microsoft may still be debating a change to its Xbox One backwards compatibility stance as well?

but it's a technical issue. they have to get over the "can it be done" hurdle. and if it can be done, I can't think of any reason they wouldn't want to do it (assuming it's a 'software solution', and not just putting 360 hardware in the x1 box). it would be a huge selling point

I would love that, but I aint gonna get my hopes up.

These companies have proven to be too stupid to realize that having all these gamers that own all these games on their previous system would be even more likely to make the jump if they can bring their library with them. Cause no one wants a new system with nothing to play.

And it would also help with that whole pr nightmare problem.....

Y'all do realize that both the Xbox1's & PS4's CPU isn't powerful enough to emaluate Xbox360 or PS3 games? There is NO CHANCE the Xbox1 will be able to play retail or digital Xbox360 games natively.

The only way that the Xbox1 can play Xbxo360 natively would be if there was a Xbox360 SoC in the Xbox1. But that would only increase the price of making the Xbox1. So, either they jack-up the price of the Xbox1 another $100 or they take a even bigger loss of money on each Xbox1 sold.

I just don't see it happening.

wouldn't you rather have less devices, controllers, wires, etc?
Makes no difference to me. My entertainment center is big enough to conceal 2 systems and realistically, i wont be playing ps3 once ps4 really picks up steam. Itll be in my sons room and he can jam on those inferior titles.

The OP forgot to post this part of the article:
During a recent visit to a Microsoft Store, we asked the Xbox One sales lead about many of the console’s features and games. Most of our 30-minute interview saw the rep sticking to the talking points we’ve all heard by now, with one notable exception: Xbox One backwards compatibility. They Do??!!!!! What's the point of that? They don't have the loyal dedicated fanbase like Apple does.
