What McMahon did is tie Hogan's success to their success. If Hogan is doing well and the company is doing well, then by default you are doing well. They all credit Hogan for the merchandising sales because before that there really wasn't merch money in wrestling.

Then Bischoff came along and tied the success of WCW directly to the success of Hogan as well. So that's why so many people feel in debt to Vince and Hogan.
