That is the truth. Place makes you hustle like no place else. I've never been to NY but taking 3 buses and traveling for 2 hours on it to do what you love says a lot.God blessed you, man. It's a foot in the door.
To make rent, I've done everything from parking security attendant at Griffith Observatory to literally doing a 9th Graders online English homework for $25 an hour (I got to read all the books I didn't read from back in the day like 'The Odyssey.') Shoot, I'm temping now at this boring ass corporation in Brentwood. Whatever needs to be done to pay the bills.
Thing is, I've got ppls at Viacom, my roommate - before getting fired - tried to get me in at a place headed by two very prominent industry folks...even the connections haven't really worked out. I've been on over twenty interviews I've had four or five second interviews, so I know I'm good enough for these positions. It's been challenging.
I do beats and have been fortunate enough to have placements on shows since like '06. The backends aren't enough to live off of, though, so that's why I'm looking for a decent 9-to-5 somewhere in entertainment to supplement the old income.
With all that said, though, moving out here was one of the best things I've ever done and wouldn't want to be anywhere else. LA is dope af.
That's a damn good "side gig"It is from $27K to $80K plus commission on the performance of an artist he/she gets signed.
Props to OP.
I moved to LA a bit over a year ago to try and get a gig in the industry and, over 750+ applications later, managed to get a part-time gig at a boutique Music Publishing company in Hollywood.
This town is NO JOKE. I thought with my corporate sales experience in NYC and Bachelor's Degree that I'd find a gig in no time. HA!
My roommate has a degree from Stanford and used to work for some powerful folks - he has been unemployed (save for a Hosting job at a restaurant near LA LIVE) since October.
It's real out there.
How's that nikka able to make ends meet by hosting? Tell that nikka get the fukk outta there and go somewhere else. How your man get fired? What positions are ya'll trying to get?God blessed you, man. It's a foot in the door.

I think he's living off of credit cards, plus his family got dough.Right now, I am taking a step back to take two forward.I think he's living off of credit cards, plus his family got dough.
He was an Exec. Assistant and one day just kind of didn't go in, shut his phone off, and kind of had a melt down. These entertainment executives are crazy, man. They don't like "no" and are not emotionally stable.
I'm trying to get anything, really, in Music Publishing/Jr. Talent Agent (in training)/A&R assistant - within reason. I can't work for free - unless the gig was at like Beats/Apple or CAA and I was promised a shot at a permanent gig within a reasonable time.

You should have.My only advice to you is in the meantime learn digital marketing. SEO/facebook marketing/PPC. It's not as difficult as it looks and really is just a pay and test shyt out type of thing (it doesn't seem like you have the spare income for this). It'll possibly give you that extra advantage. In fact instagram is about to open up their advertising platform, figure that out and it might take you a long way. If anything it could be a decent side-gig that can turn into a full time gig. In 10-15 years this will probably be a standard for marketing types. The beauty in it, is shyt is always changing. Tactics that worked last year, might not work this year. There's alot of intuition and personal innovation you can bring as well.
In fact, I was just at a church luncheon for my pops who just graduated from Bible School. I was sitting at a table and the guy next to me was/is a gospel singer. He was talking about google this, and how he was looking to make a website to put all his videos and bio info on and shyt like that. All I had to say, was I could do that for you and bam possibly would have landed a 1500+ dollar recurring gig. He was saying he was willing to pay whatever and everything. I know Internet marketing but I don't make websites. Im sure I could have outsourced all that on the low though.
You should have.

Can i send you my demoAnd I love it. I need a part-time gig asap. shyt isn't easy and thank God for the internet. I, personally, see why so few have all the money. They deserve it.A plethora of people are not good at all. Sad since the demand for quality music and performance is at an all-time high. Not physical copies but people stream the same songs over and over. Go pay to see the same people perform because most people aren't good.
