I don't know if it's the label Mass Appeal or the low budget they are providing, if you're going to be throwing out projects from Legendary acts, you gotta go all in with the PRODUCTION!!! The last 3 albums they put out with Slick Rick, Rae and Ghost all have that in common, it sounds like some cheap water down production from no name producers and the product suffers cuz of it. I'm sure the budget they spent on these albums could've gone to one great producer like a pete rock, alchemist, RZA, hell even Harry Fraud or Scram Jones. This is what separates Common's joint with Pete Rock, LL's with Q-Tip, they locked in with ONE PRODUCER and got a great cohesive quality sound because of it, not to mention the reason why Clipse had great success recently going all in with Pharraell (who is their day 1 producer that has the SOUND fans fell in love with in the first place). At the end of the day, this is the MUSIC BIZ and you need great PRODUCTION to have a QUALITY ALBUM. They can keep the other albums they have planned on releasing, what i really, and most of us can say this is that Nas PREEMO album because we associate QUALITY with Preemo, we know what to EXPECT, it's like Pepsi (american gangster qoute yeah i know :russ: )

if you gon just give us cheap sounding beats and make these albums sound kinda stale then keep em, or have em LOCK in with a great producer so we REALLY have something look forward to. It's no excuse as to why anyone would go cheap on the production side, this is YOUR PRIDE and JOY, treat it as such!

Mass appeal has very little influence on the creative side

These albums were delivered to the label the way the artists wanted to. They were not given a production budget they are just being released under the same umbrella.

THESE ARTISTS WILL NEVER REACH THEIR GREATEST LEVELS AGAIN REGARDLESS OF MONEY SPENT... and that Snoop and Dre album is the best example...

NY all day..Da Stead & BK..
These albums were basically done before they even hit Mass Appeal. Idris Elba did all the production on Slick Rick joint. And Rae and Ghost also did what they wanted to do. It's funny tho cause as much as I seen nikkas complain on here. A bunch of people in really life fukkin wit the albums. It is what it is.

The LL / Q Tip joint sold 16K. All that praise you just gave it doesn't equal the fans actually supporting it with dollars. We all remember Ghost complaining about spending money on beats only for the so called fans to not show their support with dollars. When people complain about Ghost being cheap on the beats and then I look at his album sales for the past decade I can understand why he doesn't have a passion for going all out with spending money just to have lackluster sales.

Stringer wasnt doing the beats, he was a producer on the visual component of the album, Slick Rick with the help of a about 5 or 6 co-producers did all the beats

Like you said Slick Rick's album was done.Ghost been working on SC 2 for like a decade. He been talking about it.
De La been working on this album about to come out for at least 7 years. It's going to be Pete Rock, Premier and old school producers they been talked about it.
Mobb Deep would make a posthumous after P died but it was caught up with some legal shyt so they did just do the album recently.
Big L I have no info on but obviously it's old because he's passed away.
All these albums really were done and then they got with MA. Not the other way around. This curation you're asking for wasn't possible. The artists did what they did without Mass Appeal influence.

Niqqaz want the world when no one is buying albums. Be happy these niqqaz still want to rep and put out music. No one is embarrassing themselves with these releases. They vary in quality like everyone else but niqqaz want perfection when these artists were well respected but weren't perfect in the first place.

You guys really should do your googles before you start bytching and complaining.

Each of the three albums we’ve gotten so far in the “Legend Has It…” series were already recorded and completed BEFORE the artists signed deals with Mass Appeal for distribution.

Slick Rick has been working with Idris Elba and his label for the last 5 years on the album that became Victory, Idris spoke on it on Nas’s “The Bridge” podcast 3 years ago. The album and visual movie were completed and Slick Rick went with Mass Appeal for distribution because of his respect for Nas and Peter Bittenbender.

Raekwon’s The Emperor’s New Clothes was also completed and Rae was shopping it to labels, he liked the “Legend Has It” strategy and decided to trust Nas’s vision.

Ghostface Killah has been working on Supreme Clientele 2 for YEARS. The album is basically a collection of songs that date from 2004-2024 that Ghost and his team felt fit the “spirit” of the OG. Peter Bittenbender contacted Ghost’s team and Ghost felt that he should go with Mass Appeal because of his respect for Nas and how he handles business.

Of the upcoming albums, only Nas/Premier and Big L’s projects are in-house Mass Appeal albums. De La Soul has been working on their album for at least the past two years and have even confirmed they were back working with Prince Paul about a year ago. Havoc has been working on the Mobb Deep album also for at least the last two years and recently recruited Alchemist to assist, as of two weeks ago the album is 100% finished.
