Speaking on Ghost there's 2 ways I see it:

1) I put myself in Ghostfaces shoes. Why go all out, spend a bunch of money to give you what you want and still see the same amount as LL/QTip did their first week? On the flip side, Gunnas album that dropped nearly 3 weeks ago did 80K. Ghost knows this generation ain't spending money on his albums like they did in the 90's/2000's. There's no even trade to recoup if Ghost goes all out to spend money making the best product like that. Might as well give y'all a bunch of unreleased old songs, call it a day and get this money grab by calling it Supreme Clientele 2.

2) With that said, we are speculating that Ghosts Supreme Clientele 2 isn't what we expected because the production was lackluster due to spending but what if Ghosts passion is just gone and he doesn't approach music anymore the way we think he's supposed to? What if he just don't got it like that anymore and he really did the best he could? We all saw that Dr Dre don't got it anymore with that Missionary album with Snoop. Maybe Ghost just don't got it anymore.
So damn y’all just accepting BS lol

i would think pride would be the reason to make the best music

ghost not that washed where he can’t make a good project

Doesn't make sense bringing up a good project that doesn't exist. The thread is signaling in on the fact that Ghost didn't make the project that was expected. The album he dropped just last year was eh! as well. That's back to back eh! Ghost might not have it anymore and you're just in denial. I've accepted that as a possibility but you haven't.

The LL / Q Tip joint sold 16K. All that praise you just gave it doesn't equal the fans actually supporting it with dollars. We all remember Ghost complaining about spending money on beats only for the so called fans to not show their support with dollars. When people complain about Ghost being cheap on the beats and then I look at his album sales for the past decade I can understand why he doesn't have a passion for going all out with spending money just to have lackluster sales.

There are rappers who sell significantly less than Ghost yet rap over better beats. This has nothing to do with sales. Unless you're Jay or Eminem, vet/legend status rappers are not putting up big numbers in this current era. There are some dope beats on SC2. There are also some god awful ones. I think the problem people have is the inconsistent quality of beats and songs, including a mixture of old tracks that simply make the album feel like a cash grab. No one expected SC2 to be better than SC1. But this feels lazy in a very weird way. Even worse when you think back to how Rae curated Cuban Linx 2 (including saving beats) in order to craft a really good album (with really good beats/producers). There was a path to do this right.

It's not a BAD album. It just feels like a missed opportunity.

Mass appeal has very little influence on the creative side

These albums were delivered to the label the way the artists wanted to. They were not given a production budget they are just being released under the same umbrella.

THESE ARTISTS WILL NEVER REACH THEIR GREATEST LEVELS AGAIN REGARDLESS OF MONEY SPENT... and that Snoop and Dre album is the best example...
This... Especially on the SNOOP and Dr e point at the end too, one producer and i am sure they were locked in but honestly it will never be like back in the days gain, impossible to re-create and too much expectations in 2025. That being said I liked most of Rae's album and Ghosts so far is cool but of course no Supreme Clienttele.

Mass Appeal is just a distribution and press up for the roll outs. Like others side on the creative side thats on the artist. Even the promo is up to them (Ghost is everywhere promoting his album which Rae didnt reallly do for his)

Budget wise these albums have an Alchemist/Havoc and Premier album on the bill so it aint like an in house A&R is guiding

So what you got going on is really the risk when older rappers still try and rap. Sometimes it works, sometimes they mail it in

The overall idea though was to just see some legends active

Mass Appeal is an independent record label.

They're not just a P&D. Every project they release in this series gives the artists advances, like any other record label would. They're just smaller. This is why their releases on physical media have the pre-orders. The fans are funding that, so that the label doesn't have to spend on pressing. Artists can opt to use their advances for whatever they want. With Mass Appeal, that would be for videos, production, promotion, studio time, etc. That option is on the artist. But the label is giving them the funds to cover whatever they choose.

But that’s what I mean by saying what you get is on the artists. And Ghost has been sitting on some form of a SC 2 album for years which is why a lot of it is from the vault.

All I know is, dudes like Rome Streets, Knowledge The Pirate, Hus Kingpin, T.F., Willie The Kid etc. shouldn't have better beats than Rae and Ghost, but they do.
No they don't. lol
Niqqaz overrate these projects crazy. It's just niqqaz rappin' on some braggadocios tip with no concepts, story telling or interesting topics. And the production vary in quality similar to these releases.
The most original thing Knowledge says is "Ahoy!"
