I assumed Mint Condition was popular in their time...

mint condition would do things to make their listeners understand the heritage of rock. i don’t think people who don’t have mc lp’s in their collection , they wouldn’t know

that’s why on the first 4 albums, they intentionally had a guitar based rock track at the verrrrrrry end .

Which surprisingly the main guitar solo was by a legendary band drummer by the name of Jellybean Johnson - who was the original drummer for The Time. This is all about taking listeners to school. Because most people the first band they would listen to would be mint condition

they were reminding the rebellious touchstones for the origins of rock music -

mothers finest
bad brains
fishbone
24-7-spyz
black merda
death
living colour
lenny k
prince

And i think they did it to say “just because we wear suits and play ballads, don’t think we don’t have marshall amp stack in the back & can’t kick your ass. “

So that’s something to understand, they listened to Led zep, jimi, rolling stones they knew these bands

And they also knew they would never get that type of accolades that bands like that received because rock radio is a holy tabernacle.

But they just found another road. And that’s why when they tour again, they can tour until physically they don’t want to. Don’t be a fool & start with Meant to be Mint on your listening journey :ohlawd:

You didn’t have to have all them trinkets back then to be considered dope. You could be gold or less and be considered a big star in the black community. If only that could come back for these times.

Mint Condition was the best band of the 90s. Their sales may not reflect it, but they were indeed the Earth Wind & Fire, Barkays, Isleys, Ready for the world of their era. Every member played multiple instruments and their songs were on the radio and Video Soul daily. They were never a C Level band. They were clearly the best of their era with the combination of musical ability, performance, and albums . Everything was in-house as they wrote and produced thtier own music. They didn't have the success of Jodeci, Boyz II Men, Dru, Hill, BBD, SWV, or Envogue, but they were legit. To this day I still purchase every Mint Condition album in the physical copy and I have known all of the members by name and what instruments they play. Keri Lewis left after marrying Toni Braxton . he was the main keyboardist from the beginning.

:jbhmm:Don’t know about this one but they were a great band

Breh I will never forget as a kid we were playing in the park and this light blue Toyota Tercel came by playing “Pretty Brown Eyes” and dude was eating some McDonald’s fries doing about 60 around the curve (park was a circle). He somehow lost control and went full speed into a tree. As kids we didnt know no better so we thought it was funny. Song was still playing while the car was smoking.

Hope he wasn't trying to tale himself out. I didn't realize the power of that song until like 2015. I was DJ at a family cookout. My cousin requested the song. As I'm about to play the song, my brother is like "any song, but that one". At the point, I knew that song hit on a personal level and he tells the story about a girl he liked at the time and "Quit Breakin My Heart" always reminds him of her. I still played the song all while see him go back to the moment he first heard the song. He might've gotten closure after all those years hearing that song.

They were very good and gave off Toni Tony Tony vibes but more mature. Like a 90s After 7. Like everyone else said they didn’t come out at the best time. They were trying to be overly sexual and were real musicians not trying to make “urban” RnB.
