Edit: Also, is it true that you can only plug in and unplug a SATA drive just a few times before the connectors are damaged because they’re not as durable as USB?

Sounds like either you have got a faulty power connector on the drive or at the plug connector off the psu harness. I will say the connectors on the sata drives are a bit more fragile than the USB connectors. You have to be careful not to flex or bend those connections too much on the hdd, they can be prone to breaking if too much force is put on them.

If you have access to an external hdd sata docking station try that, if it works with that with no issues then your problem lies in the connection coming off your psu.

Download crystal disk info. It will give you data about all your drives and also the general health of your drive. If any of it says anything besides good you might have a problem. Post a screenshot if it gives you something like "caution" about the disk you're having problems with..

try another SATA cable. I went through a nightmare trying to troubleshoot issues with my SSD, and it turned out to be the cable
