The allowances you claim on your W4 decide how much money will be taken from your taxes.
If the government takes too much you get a refund. If they take too little you have to pay.
By overpaying youre basically giving the government an interest free loan.

You can go there an figure out how many allowances you need to claim so that your refund is $0 at the end of the year.
Of course put money to the side just in case you miscalculate and end up owing.
When i was in sales i knew people who would raise their allowances to the max at bonus time so they paid $0 taxes on that check.

People who have kids getting their taxes back and probably getting a lot. Some people wait on their tax refund to buy a car or to move or for a house down payment.
I'm not hype cause an extra 2000 won't really do much for me now that I g9t a new high paying job but I see nothing wrong with people looking forward to it.
Some people can't really save up money good so this is a good chance for them to get a lump sum.
