Not necessarily no. A Transexual is someone who transitions from their designated sexual gender.
A "hermaphrodite" is someone who possesses (in some capacity) the reproductive organs of both genders at birth.

You can be a "hermaphrodite", get assigned a gender at birth, and become a transexual later through choice.

But not every transexual is a "hermaphrodite".

From what I was informed in school a hermaphrodite has both male and female reproductive organs. Where as a transexual doesn't.

A hermaphrodite can be a man who developed non functional ovaries while in his mother's womb. Or a woman who have undeveloped testicles that are inside her and never dropped.

Hermaphrodites in humans are normally sterile from what I remember.

Also don't forget there is a stage when an embryo is neither male or female. I think this is the stage where something goes wrong and people end up becoming hermaphrodites.

If I remember my biology correctly there is a stage where the baby has a opening and glad area. From there the opening will stay and develop into a vagina and clitoris and ovaries. Or the opening will close and where the clitoris would form on a female the penis will form for a male and testicles will form.

Intersex is such a broad term tho...
That could mean anything from Vaginal Atresia, to Turner Syndrome, to Hypospadia. Technically those are all intersex but most people would probably only refer to Turner Syndrome as intersex just because its easy to see.

I'm curious, did the fact that you're intersex lead to your decision to transition?
