whats the most important quality in a rap artist? as i get older i know its not as simple as just spitting rappity rap.

look at someone like 50 for exammple, no one would put him as a top mc, including me. but then i didnt really understand his role. his role is that of a songwriter. so he is not going to hit you with the elite metaphors, and smilies, and inner rhymes, and cadences etc. his job is to write catchy hooks, and make easy to follow verses that you will be singing along to. In Da Club is his greatest creation in that respect. when i first heard that song it was the most dumbed down sh!t i ever heard, but damn if i wasnt singing that shyt the whole year.

i feel people who hold Pun at the expense of established goats, up are using the old criteria of rappity rap and on that level, few are gonna beat him, but keep it real, how much of his stuff resonates beyond just that? especially when you compare him to BIG. BIG had so many well crafted songs, that Pun is just not fukkin with. as a pure spitter sure, but that criteria in my opinion is overrated.

i wouldn't put him top anything as an MC. as far as pure technical spitters i still wouldn't put him top 5 or even 10. Black Thought, G Rap, Kane, Nas, KRS, DOC, there's a lot of cats better. if you weant to break it down to MC's who rely heavily on multis and those non stop flows then you could prob put him top 5

You can make a case for maybe about 5 rappers being better rappers than Pun. Pun can literally do everything better than most rappers, lyrically, flow wise, delivery, everything was great except Breath Control.

Now is he top 10 all-time as far as output? No. But as far as rhyming skills? He's top 3 all time.
