When I was coming up, living in Memphis Tn, they used to bestow that honor on the Louisville Basketball Cardinals, D. Griffin, Scooter McCray and the boys. It looks as though this predates and debunk what I always thought was started by them. Also, I remember doing this routine in the 70's, learned it from my brothers. Give me five, up high, down low, to slow(as you moved your hand away).
