Never heard of him. And I understand the incredulity around him not understanding how bad racism still is in America.

Having said that, if a person does eventually come to grips with that reality…that’s a good thing. That’s what progress is.

I’m not saying this David French guy is suddenly a good person or anything. I’m just saying that when someone finally comes around to your line of thinking…or to your reality, in a genuine way…it’s probably not the best idea to trash them over how long it took to get there.

The most important part of this dialog is that he did believe racism was an issue. So he likely felt that the bootstraps weren't tight enough

He also adopted this girl because he felt sorry for her conditions. And felt he could save her. Only to find out she was better off where she came from

It's a waste of time and energy talking to CACs about racism.

It all just goes in one ear and out the other.

All you're gonna get are disingenuous responses; their conscience (aka “white guilt”) won't ever let them fully acknowledge or understand the type of racism and bigotry Black folks experience because that would require them to look in the mirror. For a long time, CACs have believed themselves to be the world's morally righteous citizens, and these topics challenge that perception.

The conversation of race, racism, etc., will never sit well with White folks because they feel guilty, but not guilty in the sense of having regret and remorse for their actions or how they've made others feel, but rather because it makes THEM feel bad and look horrible in the eyes of others, y'know, it's all about self-image/perception.

I feel sorry for any Black person who wastes their time and energy trying to “school” 'em about these things because you're never gonna get truthful and honest responses or discussions. These CACs aren't blind or stupid; they know, except they don't care and/or expect you to “get over it/don't talk about”, which isn't for your sake but for theirs, as the conversation and realization are too much for them to handle.
