I've never had a drink or smoke in my life and it's because of what I seen as a child and a promise.

When I was a kid, I watched my father, his brother and all their cousins in that generation lose good paying jobs and houses due to constant drinking and smoking. They all came over my dad's house and did the same drinking/smoking thing every weekend, especially for basketball and football games. They became useless bums. I remember being a little kid and not wanting to go over my dad's house because he was going to be drinking. It was just instilled in me as a kid to see the negative correlation between all of that.

Then my great grandmother was disgusted with all of them one day and said she needed me to promise her that I would never smoke or drink. So that sealed it for me.
