Houston, by way of Pittsburgh.
A lot of people who call themselves fans of Hip Hop don't look at it as an art form and it's highly annoying (and disrespectful to those who actually take it seriously). I think it's because Hip Hop is the only genre to constantly be look down upon as "not music." Why that is, I'll never know. Which is why goofy ass Akademiks irritates me because he has a Hip Hop show, but only subjects himself to the ignorant shyt and has no knowledge of what actually makes Hip Hop what it is.

I'm like the OP. I take that shyt in and internally dissect why a particular artist, song, or album is good. I love hearing all the different ways people choose to express themselves. I listen to an album or song even if I don't want to just because I feel like I have to do my due diligence as a fan.

When I was a teen yeah. I don't have the time for that now. When I'm in the whip, I just want to vibe. Long distance trip? I'd rather listen to a podcast.

Yeah but you be putting down emcees, and give hood passes to c00ns who never have "substance" but only have bars.
But because, they're from a different region, you be Whitewashing the shyt out of your contempt for them, the same way cacs to do us in certain regions. You promote insane levels of double standards, but don't reality check yourself in making them for headlines.

We cool on here, but sometimes you really be saying some bullshyt and extremely bias on some Fox News like bent angle.

I do. I like to study flows, specifically. I always find studying rappers like Biggie for that reason alone very interesting. Same with Jay. I do the same with production as well.

I have no clue what you're talking about. And I'll assume you are not directly calling me a shytty person.

Nah fam, not calling you a shytty person.

You said entertainment vs. art.

A lot of people reduce Hip Hop as a culture down to being entertainment like on the same level as reality TV...those are shytty people.

word choice is so interesting to me

the fact that rappers can put hundreds of words together & each syllable has a musical quality that rides with production

is totally insane

Anybody else like this? Im a fukking nerd when it comes to rap. I dont just listen to rap, I find myself literally studying and "dissecting" it.

I dissect the rhyme schemes and patterns used. I dissect the flows and cadences. I study how the rapper conveys his overall message/story while at the same time utilizing an assortment of poetic devices and techniques. Its fascinating to me the thought and intelligence it takes to pull this off.

I rarely just mindlessly "vibe" to rap music. The rap music I listen to personally is too lyrically dense for me to just "vibe" to. If I wanna just "vibe" I usually just throw on an instrumental. My mind is usually heavily activated when I'm listening to rap and is why I'm so addicted to it as an artform. I've noticed new shyt that I never noticed before in songs I've listened to hundreds of times.

It really exercises and challenges my mind:ahh:
