John Hopkins has $80 billion just in endowments so they could easily move anywhere else. Obviously they are there because they want to be. What is the reasoning behind keeping an internationally renowned research hospital in the ghetto? They have been taking advantage of poor black people since johns Hopkins himself died. Did you know the medical school was originally a school of eugenics? Have you heard of Henrietta Lacks and her stem cell line making them billions in research funding?
Why does Baltimore have more police per capita than any other city? How come the school board has hundreds of millions of dollars unaccounted for? Between two tunnels and a bridge charging tolls, and the gasoline tax, why does the city have worse roads than 3rd world countries? Do you really think it's cheaper to patch holes indefinitely than repave the road every 20 years?
As long as the government doesn't do their job, they can keep coming back asking for more money. City taxes are high as hell, and they still have to get hundreds of millions from the state just to meet their budget.

Bottom line is we can debate about the reasons of why but Baltimore being fukked up is not for debate. I think it's on purpose, I just can't accept that 40+ years of incompetence and financial mismanagement is just some unfortunate series of random events.
If John's Hopkins move, imagine how many jobs would go with it... John's Hopkins is its own little self-contained city, why would you want them to leave the city??????? Why would you not want Baltimore City to host the best hospital on the planet?
Baltimore has more police per capita because it has a very high crime rate, and the 2nd highest murder rate per capita after St. Louis. If nikkaz stopped killing each other at such a high clip, and tone down the crime, you wouldn't need so many police officers.
If city government isn't doing their job, who's fault is that?? The citizens who keeps voting for then nikkaz. Baltimore is a majority black city, and guess what black people have a tendency to do....Vote Democrat. So if you have nikkaz voting for the same people of course you're gonna get the same results. nikkaz voting and not even knowing who they're voting for, what policies the person is pushing for, what their plans are for the city, how are they gonna pay for said plans. nikkaz vote out of tradition...Make.no sense at all to me.

Baltimore needs to be gentrified. The only cities that aren't currently gentrifying are the ones that are urbanizing.

I don't think you get what I was asking. I want to know WHY they stay. What benefit do they have to being where they are. They could easily build another hospital in the white L along i83. They are a research school, they need to have easy access to high risk populations to study, they need desperate people with complex health problems to experiment on, they need shock trauma patients to practice surgery on, etc.
Is there space in the city for a hospital that size anywhere else than where it is? Also, how much would all that cost? You know much red tape they have to go thru for a move like that? Also, think about this, if nikkaz insist on shooting each other, they don't have far to travel to get to shock trauma.
Something else to consider: if Johns Hopkins wasn't there to buy up all those vacant lots to building new houses to improve the quality of life in that area, then what other entity is gonna do it? That area will remain in the condition that it is currently in.
I'm not attacking you by any means. I'm attacking the idea that if the city is messed up, and there are things in place to change that, why complain about the changes if its for the betterment of the city as a whole?

Ive been to Baltimore many times.
The downtown area is really nice everything is pretty much in walking distance. I liked it but personally wouldnt live there.

Baltimore and Detroit are the armpits of America. I used to think it was just incompetence or gross negligence on the part of authorities but after doing my own research I have come to the conclusion that it is by design that things are so fukked up.
Why is John's Hopkins university in a CAC part of north Baltimore, while the hospital is near a war zone in East Baltimore? To experiment on the desperate and harvest organs. Why are the schools fukked up? As long as it's fukked up they can keep asking for more money from the state. They are at $2billion a year budget and are just as dilapidated as ever. Why are the roads in such bad shape? They can continue to charge for repairs instead of fixing the road right once. The city functions on dysfunction.
Nearly half of all economic activity is tied to the black market. There wouldnt be a Lexington Market if it wasn't an open air drug market. If it wasn't for food stamps there wouldn't be any corner stores.
There is a small group of people profiting off of the city, and none of them live here. Imagine your a young professional CAC who buys one these overpriced rehabs in canton or fells point. Sure you live near restaurants, bars and Starbucks.... but after buying a house the next step is having kids.
Where will they go to school?

JHU hospital, which it the reason for most travel to Baltimore, is dead in the hood
