I don't own a motorcycle but I thinking about getting this one. Thoughts?

Most Harleys look like they're for older dudes and are just generally unappealing to me.

But this one here has style, looks sporty, looks like it's a cool bike just for casual riding on the streets. I want to get a bike while I'm still young.

And it's only $8,000 brand new. :ehh:

Harley Davidson Iron 883 is the model

Motorcycles are fun

Make sure you

- get all your gear- helmet, jacket, jeans/pants, gloves, boots. If it's too hot to wear all your shyt don't ride.
- take the MSF beginner rider course to learn the basics in a safe environment. If you pass you get your license.
- buy a used bike. So much cheaper. You will probably drop it and one drop can total the bike with just cosmetic damage

Personally I would look at Japanese cruisers if that's your thing. Much more reliable, pretty much the same look. Kawasaki has the Vulcans, Suzuki has the Marauders, Honda has the Shadows, Yamaha has its Star brand. They all these kind of "Sons Of Anarchy" looking bikes with the matte black paint and shyt. Personally not my thing but different strokes. Just make sure you do it right. Dont be like the girl in my office who crashed her bike a month after she got it cause she didnt learn how to ride

what's funny is, after I made this thread last night, I started looking at some other comparative cruisers, and immediately I was like :leon:

The Honda Shadow Phantom was dope, and the Vulcan was too. Then I think there was a Yamaha Bolt or something. I say one Yamaha that was only like $4,000+. But the way that Harley sounds is on some

. Though I'm sure the sound on a Yamaha can be improved with different exhaust.

And yeah, maybe used is the best option if i can find something i like, especially since I don't know have experience w/ bikes. BUT I do know I'm not gonna be driving it too fast and have no plans for much highway riding. I aint bout that life. Mainly streets or lesser traveled roads.

Go used and start with a smaller cc. Even a dirt bike can do the trick. The higher the CC the greater the change of getting in a fatal accident. It compounds. Also motorcycle riding is getting more dangerous. More texters and cell phone users than ever.

Per vehicle mile traveled in 2004, motorcyclists were about 34 times more likely than passenger car occupants to die in a motor vehicle traffic crash

per mile traveled in 2006, there were 35 times more deaths from motorcycle accidents than from car accidents.

per vehicle mile travelled in 2007, motorcyclists were about 37 times more likely than passenger car occupants to die in a motor vehicle traffic crash

CRUSIERS ARE BETTER TO LEARN ON. 750 CRUSIERS VS 750 SPORT BIKE IS NIGHT AND DAY. CRUSIERS ARE MORE STABLE ON NOT SO SMOOTH ROAD. I HAVE A HONDA SHADOW SPIRIT.

what's up w/ so many of these bikes not having a gas gauge?

I didnt realize this is common. :what:

Figure out the miles per gallon and use the trip meter. I typically get about 40 MPG and 120 miles before the light goes off. My commute averages about 80 miles a day tho :sadcam:

Cruisers are good first bikes because they force you to take it easy. 750s are a good place to start for sure. Again I cant fukking do it. I need to lean :demonic: but they are good for others who want to go that way.

Most bikes nowadays are fuel-injected so you get a low fuel light which is good for 20-30 mIles once it comes on. Not much tech to it though, electronic float in the tank with a signal that goes to the dash triggered when it reaches a certain level. My sportbike has carbs and still Honda put a low fuel light on it. Back in the day was the struggle using trip meters to gauge how far you could go.
