I don't think football will "go away" as a result of CTE/concussions, etc

I was gonna make this thread the other day, but then I just saw Jarrod Mayo retired, so figured I'd do it now.

I don't think football will disappear as many have stated, but careers will likely be shorter.

I think you'll see more random Calvin Johnson-esque retirements from players, rather than playing another 5-6 years until they are "old"

It'll also be interesting if this becomes a trend, if players can bargain for some level of guaranteed contracts

I'm ok with seeing players leaving the game earlier. It's not as if there isn't someone behind them ready to continue where they left off.

I think we may see football return to its more rugby roots.

Helmets that are meant to provide safety are also a means of a player giving up his entire body at top speed to make a tackle. There's no give in tackling a runner.

Naw bruh this shyt will eventually affect the NFL but we won't see it and neither will our children (depending on your age), what will be effected is the next 20 years and that is if... A VERY BIG IF the NFL and media don't put an end to this soon.

Parents are going to stop their kids from playing football and start to guide them to the more safer sports. This is what will start to hurt the NFL and football in general. Its crazy to think right now but when you take into consideration the risks along with money that you can make in the other "big two" and interest in golf still climbing you'd have to be niece to think different.

If the NFL can curb this, which isn't unfathomable to think (the NFL has it perfect with the long off season), then they will be OK. Don't get it twisted, there is a very good reason that movie came out close to when the playoffs started and not during the off season or beginning of the season...NFL couldn't stop it but I guarantee they had some say in when it was released and they knew that it would get pub but the playoffs would take your t away.

We will see though and it will he very interesting

So OP thinks Roger Goodell actually gives a damn about these players :jbhmm:
OP is also a wrestling stan. How many oro wrestlers die young amd suffer from all kinds of health issues? Yet they're still here amd going strong. CTE has to be in wrestling. As well as Hockey amd maubr even soccer. Football is the spotlight because its the biggest sport in our country.

it depends breh. But here in the South, football ain't seeing a dent in popularity.

Sure some parents will stop their kids, but MOST of them will be the kids who weren't gonna make it anyway.

And you're just talking the South... that anit gonna fuel 32 teams with rosters of 50+ players. Then you have college ball which is what...200 teams??!!! Yea division A ball is all that matters but a lot of schools depend on that football money and you take that away then you take away a lot. Gotta look at the bigger picture.
