Before the condescending rhetoric etched in defensiveness is spewed towards poor Black folks and I click unwatch on this thread, I just want to drop some Phonte tracks to highlight what I'm talking about these middle-class folks not being on Phonte's level. Instead of engaging in some shallow analysis of why he turned out the way he did and others didn't make it, Phonte was able to articulate the nuances of attitudes/variables that lead to certain outcomes.

Phonte didn't have to spout some half-assed tariq nasheed lite analysis nor did he have to go the route of slick condescending moral grandstanding.

:russ::russ: I don't care that these cats are middle class, it's just that they suck. Phonte was middle class and he was A. better than all these nikkas B. laid the template for these dudes and they haven't done much with it.
My man was rapping about working retail for the summer as a teen and buying Krispy Kreme donuts and made it dope...these pampered lil nikkas can't even do that!

Some wit, some humor, some introspection, some bravado, some wordplay, good beat selection

IS all you need to be a different pedigree

I dont care if you grew up in the hood or not because many hood rappers are absolute nonsense

Keep investing into the prison industrial economy that they ruined the business of rap, the culture of hiphop and black nationalism with.

Ever since the idea was you had to be strictly from the projects and glorify poverty.
rap has been in a constant decline as the prevalent narrative.

Just make dope music and it dont matter where u from.

Also not all ppl who grew up in tha hood had a super hard, struggle filled life

There's plenty of "middle class" rappers who are legends....Cube, Rakim, Chuck D come to mind first

fukk outta here with all the shyt
I didn't say they was fake

I just dont want to hear it
Nikkas got to say but but but it enforces whote supremacy when aint no one talking about white ppl
Just a easy way to plead their case

And I never said you said they were fake :troll:
Fact is that's an ongoing debate among rap fans. Who is "real" and who is "fake" based off of how poor they grew up and whether or not they committed crimes. That shyt is lifted straight out of the white supremacy hand book. And it's an easy argument.....because it's true :yeshrug:

IMMIGRANT TETHERS
Rappers sure as fukk didn't tell truthful stories either, plenty of "in the streets" rappers been exposed. Got cats like Rick Ross making up personas telling fake crack stories at 45...nah, while I listen to all types of rap, i appreciate these non hood dudes. They talk about more shyt and got music that you can vibe to at 12, 19,27,or 35. The ATCQ's, kendricks, Kanye's....i don't care where you're from, make music that's dope and stands the test of time
they weren't middle class

see?:troll:

all the goat rappers from the hood
