You know you are old when you dont like today's music. It is what it is let the youth shape the music as it always was. Let the older people listen to the music of there youth
nikkas rap about the exact same shyt but with different beats.Content wise, I think people really understate how diverse rap was back in the 90s and I'd even go as far to say the content isn't as diverse these days
Every region had Thier own sound plus I personally think there was a wider range of emotions. Pharcyde, phife dawg, skeelo, etc... Would rhyme about not getting women while also getting pretty emo about it.
Cella dwellas would rhyme about time travel, mastodons, casting spells, and some other weird shyt
Eminem was on his white trash druggie shyt so that ain't really nothing new
Bone thugs gave you that fast rap with melodies but other rappers let them be by not jacking their style
DMX was having conversations with demons and even did a Collab with Marilyn Manson
Reggie Noble had the supaman luva series
Leaders of the new skool were rapping about cutting class, getting dissed for not having a car, and the PTA
Organized confusion would make songs narrating what it was like to be a fetus or a white supremacist.
Then you could creep into the underground and here apani b emcee escaping from slavery, or last emperor battling marvel superheroes.
I could go on and on
All facts, OP.
Here are some god-tier R&B albums since 2015 (just off the top of my head):
The Internet -- Ego Death
A Seat at the Table -- Solange
We Are KING -- We Are KING
Anderson .Paak -- Malibu
Phonte & Eric Roberson -- Tigallerro
Daniel Caesar -- Freudian
Moonchild -- Voyager
Gwen Bunn -- Safe Travels
Marie Dahlstrom -- Like Sand
Thundercat -- It is What it Is
I'm an 80s baby, and a super R&B connoisseur of the genre from 60s-present. Let's just say I've been eating extremely well with R&B in the modern streaming era. I hate how people my age (30s) think that everything has to sound like the 90s and early 00s. Music is supposed to evolve, and the old music is still available to enjoy. I have old school playlists on Spotify, but I also have lots of new heat.
All them songs you listed is depressing. Where's the up beat R&B?
If then artist so good why a lot of folks ain't heard of em?
Tigalerro, Malibu, and fukking Thundercat are depressing![]()

fukk it man, just stay in the 90s. Y'all are worse than these kids that don't know anything about shyt from the past. And all of those are CRITICALLY ACCLAIMED albums. Goddamn it bruh.

I don’t know what this has to do with making good music tbh. But there’s good music by skilled rappers. These new rappers y’all like have zero lyrical skill, creativity and don’t even know how to freestyle or battle.
Shut your fukkin whore mouth.

How is this a myth? I don’t hear folks talking about Oddisee but I’ve attended 3 of his shows from like 2015 - 2018. And he makes great music to me.I listen to new shyt all the time and the majority of it is trash.
This "you aint looking hard enough" is a myth lil nikkas tell themselves at night to cope with the garbage thats getting hyped by their peers.
I haven't heard Solanges album since my ex 4years ago, that shyt was only celebrated by the mimosa sipping fedora wearing feminist twitter types. People wasn't fukking with that album in the streets, sorry to say. Its something critics would love
